She is of French German, Irish, as well as Scottish heritage. Her family's Jackson Koehler Eagle Brewery was created in Erie Pennsylvania in 1847 by her family. John Martin Magenau Jr. was the president and Chief Executive Officer of this brewery from its establishment at Erie Pennsylvania in 1847 until 1978. Jacobs first started lessons in acting at the age of 8 and continued to attend the classes on Saturdays at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Mt. Lebanon High School 2000 Jacobs relocated into New York City New York to attend the Juilliard School where she was part of the Drama Division's Group 33. The school awarded her a bachelor's degree in 2004 after graduation from the Lebanon High School.
